Intensive Courses

INTRODUCTION: KRU FRENCH COURSES

Are you tired of attending classes indefinitely in your free time to improve your French? Frustrated by a lack of improvement after spending weeks in the classroom, on Skype, or doing written exercises?

Generic language lessons can set you up for failure by:

  • not providing real-world practice scenarios
  • not emphasizing effective communication
  • not giving you enough speaking practice
  • concentrating too much on written work
  • not providing a definite timeline with clear and achievable goals.

If this sounds like the French instruction you’ve been experiencing, it’s time to try KRU.

Our courses are designed to be different. KRU is the only French program on the Riviera to combine Ph.D. experts in language learning with a method focused on active speaking and an intensive program schedule.

What this means for you:

  • Targeted, concrete goals and progression
  • Improvement within two to three weeks
  • Confidence in speaking French and putting yourself “out there”
  • Hearing a maximum of spoken French and speaking a maximum of French
  • Real-world usefulness of material
  • Functionality in the real world by the end of the class
  • No drop-ins – everyone begins and ends at the same time and studies the same material

Flexible options for busy professionals

Each course is two weeks (20-25 hours) long: Choose from fully online or blended (combination online and in-person). Designed for busy professionals or students, our intensive courses take place at various hours of the day, including evenings and/or Saturdays.

We also offer the option of taking a half course. See the Course Timetable section for details.

Classes are in small groups, with a maximum of 12 students per professor. They also include fun “bonuses,” such as guest speakers, excursions, or cultural activities.

Each course includes 20-25 hours of instruction. You will be expected to do a significant amount of independent learning a minimum of two weeks before the start of the course – don’t worry, we will provide everything you need to get started!

Don’t forget:

We’ve been there. We know what it’s like. We learned French as adults and became fluent. You can learn  French too. We understand it can be scary. Intimidating. You don’t want to make mistakes. But we also understand what’s possible. We believe in our ability to help you gain confidence and progress to new levels. And we believe in you. That’s why we offer a 100% money back guarantee.

But remember:

It’s a two-way street. You get out of any language course what you put into it. If you simply show up for an hour twice a week, go through the motions of doing some exercises, put them away and don’t think about them until the next lesson, you won’t go anywhere. There is no magic pill. Learning a language takes effort, energy, and dedication.

An intensive course is just that – intense! Our courses require a significant effort on your part, including independent study before the class, but if you’re motivated and willing to work hard, you can see concrete results in just two weeks of class time.

So ask yourself: Are you ready for the KRU challenge?

Deuxième Kru / Intermediate I

This course is designed to take you from functional to conversational (up to roughly B1 level). Maybe you feel pretty comfortable speaking in an average conversation but all your verbs are in the present tense. You can tell people what happened during your day but you can’t have an in-depth discussion.

This course is for those who have some knowledge of French already and may be able to make themselves understood, but would like to move from what you can say to what you want to say. You may have already taken a beginner level course (perhaps our Premier Kru course!) or picked up basic French skills by spending some time here.

This course builds on what you learn in our beginner (Premier Kru) course and covers more in-depth topics, such as cultural and leisure activities, food and dining, and travel. The course also covers more in-depth grammar, such as various types of past tenses, reflexive verbs, and the future tense.

More reasons to choose kru

A History of Success

Kristen receives consistently positive ratings from her university students and has helped them to obtain posts in their second language all over the world

Highly Qualified Teachers

Kristen has a doctorate in French language and culture instruction and a decade of experience in adult language teaching.

A Communicative Approach

KRU concentrates on speaking instead of writing and communicating ideas rather than correcting mistakes. This creates a positive learning environment that gets students speaking quickly - and many students talk about how much fun they have doing it!

Value for money

Our courses include 20-25 hours of language instruction, with sessions of 2-3 hours. Many other intensive courses propose 30-45 minute sessions and a fewer number of total lessons. In its original format as a series of university course in the United States in 2014, tuition for each course cost more than $2000.
