Intensive Courses

Are you tired of attending classes indefinitely in your free time to improve your French? Frustrated by a lack of improvement after spending weeks in the classroom, on Skype, or doing written exercises?

Generic language lessons can set you up for failure by:

  • not providing real-world practice scenarios
  • not emphasizing effective communication
  • not giving you enough speaking practice
  • concentrating too much on written work
  • not providing a definite timeline with clear and achievable goals.

If this sounds like the French instruction you’ve been experiencing, it’s time to try KRU.

Our courses are designed to be different. KRU is the only French program on the Riviera to combine Ph.D. experts in language learning with a method focused on active speaking and an intensive, fast-paced program schedule.

What this means for you:

  • Targeted, concrete goals and progression
  • Improvement within two to three weeks
  • Confidence in speaking French and putting yourself “out there”
  • Hearing a maximum of spoken French and speaking a maximum of French
  • Real-world usefulness of material
  • Functionality in the real world by the end of the class
  • No drop-ins – everyone begins and ends at the same time and studies the same material

Flexible options for busy professionals

Our unique course formats are specially designed to fit into YOUR life, not the other way around. They offer a maximum of flexibility while packing a maximum of practice into the hours you put in.

We also offer custom courses, so if our flexible course system still doesn’t fit your needs, we can design one just for you.

Course details

We offer two course series, covering six mini-courses and two language levels (see “Course Format” for more details).

Each mini-course includes 20 hours of online instruction with a qualified teacher. All of your online hours are spent interacting with a live teacher – no automatically graded online programs that you complete by yourself.

Classes are in small groups, with a maximum of 12 students per professor. When COVID will allow, they will also include fun “bonuses,” such as guest speakers, excursions, or cultural activities.

Our teachers have masters or doctorates in French language instruction and years of experience in the classroom. They have been trained in the most recent and innovative methods by leading experts in language pedagogy and are excited to bring their expertise to YOU.

Don’t forget:

We’ve been there. We know what it’s like. We learned French as adults and became fluent. You can learn  French too. We understand it can be scary. Intimidating. You don’t want to make mistakes. But we also understand what’s possible. We believe in our ability to help you gain confidence and progress to new levels. And we believe in you. That’s why we offer a 100% money back guarantee.

But remember:

It’s a two-way street. You get out of any language course what you put into it. If you simply show up for an hour twice a week, go through the motions of doing some exercises, put them away and don’t think about them until the next lesson, you won’t go anywhere. There is no magic pill. Learning a language takes effort, energy, and dedication.

An intensive course is just that – intense! Our courses require a significant effort on your part, including independent study before the class, but if you’re motivated and willing to work hard, you can see concrete results in just two weeks of class time.

So ask yourself: Are you ready for the KRU challenge?

We know you’re a busy professional, retiree, spouse, or visitor, and you need French classes that will fit into YOUR life. We also know that you are itching to get out there and live your best Riviera life. You don’t want to spend months or years in the classroom. You don’t want to waste time learning material you don’t need. We got you.

KRU courses are specially designed for non-academics with busy schedules. Our structure offers a maximum of flexibility while keeping things intense so you get the most out of the hours you put in.

1. Choose your level

KRU offers two levels of course cycles. Individual courses within each cycle allow you to join a course tailored to your ability.

Not sure of your level? Schedule a free consultation to find the best fit for you.

Level 1: From total beginner to intermediate beginner.

Level 2: From intermediate beginner to advanced beginner/beginner intermediate.

Each cycle runs for 10 weeks and is made up of three 20-hour courses

2. Choose your schedule

Two formats are available. Choose the one that fits you best.

Summer Course Cycle

10 weeks | 3 courses | 1 course = 2 weeks of 2-hour sessions M/T/W/Th/F | 2-week break between courses.

Fall Course Cycle

10 weeks | 3 courses | 1 course = 3 weeks + 1 day of two-hour sessions M/W/F | No “breaks” between courses

How It Works

Suzie is planning a two-week summer vacation. She takes a KRU summer course just before she leaves. While she’s gone she enjoys her vacation and doesn’t  worry about missed classes or makeup work. When she gets back she simply starts the next course.

James started a fall course while looking for work. Luckily, he got a job! Because the course is only three weeks long, he’s able to finish before he has to throw himself fully into his new work. After a month or two of getting settled, when he’s ready to get back to learning French, he simply signs up for the next available course in the following course cycle.

No starting from scratch |  No missed classes  |  No makeup work  |  No repeating classes or information

I have never taken a course like this. Why structure it this way?

  1. To suit different schedules.

Remember, KRU’s goal is to conform to YOUR life, not the other way around.

2. To suit different learning styles.

Not everyone works or learns the same way. By giving learners the opportunity to choose what suits them, they can best thrive.

3.  To maximize customization.

Most of our clients have some knowledge of French already, whether from school French from years ago, time spent living here, or communicating with family members. Traditional academic courses often don’t account for this. With our intensive course cycle system, we can place you exactly where you need to be, so that you don’t waste time covering topics you don’t need*.

*But if you’re a total beginner, don’t worry, we have you covered too!

4. To maximize flexibility.

We know schedules can be unpredictable. The unexpected happens. Or you just end up with too much on your plate once in a while and need a break. With these formats, KRU gives you more flexibility than a traditional class, allowing you to stay on track without feeling lost or overwhelmed.

KRU course series

Our course series covers six courses and two language levels:

Level 1 (Total beginner to intermediate beginner): I, II, and III

Level 2: (Intermediate beginner to advanced beginner or beginner intermediate): I, II, and III.
